Our LGV training and company history
Stockport HGV Training Centre Ltd (aka Stockport LGV) was set up by Peter and Eve Allen in 1978 and they were joined by their son Karl 10 years later. Karl’s wife Kay joined the company in 2008 followed closely by Norman the Newfoundland, who many remember but is sadly no longer with us. Karl and Kay continue to run the business.
A bespoke training company built on firm foundations
We have seen many changes over the years both in the vehicles used and the tests to be taken. Through all the changes we have endeavoured to provide bespoke, one to one training for each customer, providing each person with the best opportunity to pass their tests first time. All our instructors are carefully chosen and trained by the company to ensure all training provided is to our high standard.
How we work
As a family business, we're proud of our reputation and position as one of the leading providers of LGV tuition. We combine professionalism with a personal and friendly service tailored around your individual needs. Our service begins even before the course commences, providing advice on details such as licence applications and medicals, through to arranging convenient theory and practical test dates and even accommodation, if required.
Everyone is different, not just in terms of driving experience, but also in the way they learn and we have never forgotten that fact in well over a quarter of a century.

Above all, we recognise that there are no short cuts to providing our pupils with good LGV tuition and we believe our philosophy of personal course structuring, individual instruction and our own private manoeuvring ground has established Stockport LGV as one of the foremost independent schools in the North of England, with an exceptional pass rate and a reputation for an extremely high standard of instruction.
Where we are
We are based in Stockport, next to the M60 junction 27 and only 6 miles from Manchester City Centre. Customers come from all over the North West including Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Hyde to Buxton and the High Peak to Warrington and Liverpool, not forgetting Northwich, Middlewich and Chester. We do cover Europe - having had customers from France, Spain and Malta!
